The large island we designed to be more useful with the different heights and materials. The wood top is a softer, warmer surface for the kids to use when doing their homework but we wanted the granite for the hot pots from the ovens and cooktop.
Our island was very large so we designed the different heights to reduce the large mass look and also give the cook different heights for different tasks in the kitchen
The space left after centering the microwave gave us an opportunity to design slotted spaces for her cookbooks
We custom designed a wider stile and rail door and added the decorative glass opening at the top of the doors to get an interesting play of shapes on each door. The 3 piece crown molding we created from painted simple solid stock
